Introduction to Performance Pistol
“Superlative performance is really a confluence of dozens of small skills or activities, each one learned or stumbled upon, which have been carefully drilled into habit and then are fitted together in a synthesized whole. There is nothing extraordinary or superhuman in any one of those actions; only the fact that they are done consistently and correctly, and all together, produce excellence.”
Daniel Chambliss PhD, The Mundanity of Excellence
At the highest levels of performance there are subprocesses supporting the primary shooting process. The GPC 101 Course introduces you to the world of performance shooting, what is the primary shooting process, what are the subprocesses to facilitate optimal efficiency and control, and how to drill down to the granular level of your shooting skills to locate, isolate and eliminate any unnecessary input that is detrimental to your efficiency (resulting in speed) and control (resulting in accuracy).
GPC 101: Training Objectives
1.Rapid Deployment under pressure of increasing time constraints, the student will be trained in the required subprocesses of physical mechanics, mental focus, visual and intentional processes required to execute an efficient presentation commensurate with challenging shooting industry performance standards.
2. Optimized Fire Control utilizing current performance standards, methods and practices, the student will be presented with the mental and mechanical subprocesses required to facilitate optimum fire control commensurate with challenging shooting industry performance standards.
3. Rapid Recovery and Realignment the student will be trained to apply the necessary fire control skills needed to deliver fast and accurate first and follow up shots under challenging and incremental time pressure.
4. Rapid Transition and Reacquisition the student will be trained to apply their newly developed skills to execute multiple horizontal and diagonal target transitions producing accurate hits in demanding time requirements. commensurate with recommended shooting industry performance standards.
GPC 101 – What to Expect
- Skillsets Training to develop your shooting skills well beyond your current comfort zones and pushing your skills envelope to the very edge.
- Methodology Train by pushing to failure and develop your skills beyond the failure point. There is no greater teacher than experience.
- Precision Data collection and analysis are an integral part of performance training. Leveraging statistics to identify any gaps and inefficiencies helps you to observe progress and plot a trajectory toward exceptional shooting.
- Diagnostics The course is designed to produce the ability to self-diagnose performance gaps so ongoing skills development can occur in application beyond this program of instruction.
- Sustainment Performance shooting at the elite level is an extremely perishable skill. The course provides the student with those tools needed for long-term skills sustainment alongside ongoing performance development.
 Gear Requirements
Range kit a handgun, holster, mag pouches, at least six (6) magazines, eye and ear protection, a shot timer, a ball cap and sunscreen.
Carry – you can run IWB/ AIWB /OWB, concealed/ open. However, GPC instructors advise that you run open OWB initially to develop optimal efficiency and control which will then readily translate to other access and carry positions.
Data Collection – a notebook and/ or an electronic device such as your cell phone or an iPad to record and analyze your performance data.
Round Count 800
Mandatory Qualification
All GPC courses are specifically designed for intermediate-level shooters and on up. If you are an entry-level or novice shooter you will not be able to pass the qualification. Intermediate level is defined as achieving a score of 40 or lower per the Wilson 5 X 5 standard.
Due to the nature of performance training which requires a high degree of mental focus, shooting experience and technical skill, an inability to pass the qualification, presents a liability and potential danger to all participants. This two-day introductory program of instruction is not applicable to novice or entry level shooters. Attendees must qualify for participation in the GPC 101 with a score of 40 or lower per the Wilson 5 X 5 standard.
If you fail the qualification, you may continue to take the course with a blue/ red gun/ SIRT (inert, non-firing, training replica) or are welcome to observe or reschedule for another class.
