Hosted by Staccato this program of instruction, you will be trained in how to defend against an edged weapon attack with (armed) or without (unarmed) your handgun, how to use a firearm against a violent physical threat at extreme close quarters and how to defend yourself, and those with you, against an edged weapon attack even if you have nothing in your hands in a high-threat rapidly unfolding dynamic scenario.
Description: Utilized by the U.S. Dept. of Defense, civilian Law Enforcement and protective services professionals who are required to successfully manage single and multiple armed assailants, this program answers the questions: What can I do to defend against an assailant who is attacking me and or others with an edged weapon with little or no response time? What if I can’t get to my firearm in time? What can I do in those precious 1/10 seconds when I’m reacting to a surprise attack, while trying to get to my gun? What if I’m taken off guard and with nothing in my hands – how can I defend myself and/ or my partner from a life-threatening edged weapon assault? What’s the very best way to make combat effective round placement in the shortest amount of time with my handgun at close quarters?
Content: Protecting from exposure against the seven lethal strike zones of your body targeted by skilled assailants, managing the fateful injury/ distance liability gap, risk metrics, reduce response time tactics, rapid response body mechanics, wound analysis & effects, armed and unarmed defense against an edged weapon attack at extreme close quarters, shooting performance CQB gun handling skills, engaging multiple assailants and a rare training block on exotic edged weapons to include familiarization with the infamous “karambit” where you will be introduced to the curve blade – how it is used and what makes the curved blade such a unique and effective tool employed at conversational ranges. There is no prerequisite for this course other than basic firearms training.
What to Bring: Duty pistol, three magazines, 500 rounds and duty rig, (SERPA holsters are not allowed) ball cap is mandatory, comfortable attire which can support your gun belt and holster. No open-toe foot covering allowed. Academy-level shooting fundamentals and safe gun handling skills are a prerequisite.
