Martial Arts Training extensively through the 1980’s with the likes of Guro Ted Lucaylucay, and Grandmaster Leovigildo M. Giron, Tarani achieved his Graduate/ Instructor ranking directly under Grandmaster Giron in Stockton, Caifornia in 1989. he is a disciple of Guro Dan Inosanto and received instructorship directly under Guro Inosanto in Los Angeles California in 1996. As a long-term private “back-yard” student of Punong Guro Edgar G. Sulite, Steve was also granted his instructorship in Palmdale, California in 1997. Subsequently, he is one of only a handful of Americans to hold three simultaneous instructorships in the Filipino weapon arts respectively under Grandmaster Giron, Punong Guro Sulite and Guro Dan Inosanto. Additional instructorships were conferred to Tarani on location in Japan at the Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo in Tokyo and in West Java, Bandung, Indonesia.
Practical Application Traveling to the source of non-ballistic (contact) weapon cultures such as the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, Steve took his intense training to the next level. Following cumulative years of training and full immersion into traditional Filipino, Malaysian, Japanese and Indonesian weapons systems, and extracting the practical elements of modern urban defense, he took those core components, integrated them with tier-one level firearms skills and incorporated them into U.S. DoD and civilian law enforcement training programs. As a result, Steve Tarani remains unparalleled as a professional educator of streamlined, no-nonsense protective skills.
